- EN1.4021
- ENX20Cr13
- AISI420
- UNSS42000
Martensitic stainless steel hardenable by heat treatment. Combines moderate corrosion resistance with mechanical strength and wear resistance; used in the quenched and tempered or hardened condition.

01Material Properties
- Hardenable by heat treatment (48–52 HRC)
- Moderate corrosion resistance (water, steam, mild acids)
- Good strength and wear resistance
- Magnetic
- Good machinability in the quenched and tempered condition
02Applications
- Shafts, pump and valve components
- Knives, scissors and cutlery
- Mold components requiring corrosion resistance
- Turbine and compressor parts
- Fasteners
03Delivery Condition
- Annealed max. 230 HB or quenched and tempered (+QT800: 650–850 MPa).
04Heat Treatment
Typical values
- Soft annealing
- 750–800 °C; max. 230 HB
- Preheating
- 760–800 °C
- Hardening
- 950–1000 °C; oil/air
- As-quenched hardness
- ≈ 48–52 HRC
- Tempering
- 150–250 °C → 46–50 HRC or 600–700 °C → QT (650–850 MPa); avoid 450–550 °C
- Delivery condition
- Annealed or quenched and tempered (+QT)
