P20 Plastic Mold Steel

1.2311

  • EN1.2311
  • EN40CrMnMo7
  • AISIP20

Pre-hardened (28–32 HRC) plastic mold steel with high toughness and good wear resistance; better polishability than 1.2312.

01Material Properties

  • Uniform hardness distribution across sections up to 300 mm
  • Good polishability
  • Good weldability
  • Recommended working hardness is the delivery hardness
  • Suitable for nitriding
  • High toughness
  • Relatively easy to machine despite being pre-hardened

02Applications

  • Cores of plastic injection molds up to A2 surface quality
  • Plastic and metal injection molds
  • Mold holders and extrusion press containers
  • Machine parts, wear plates

03Delivery Condition

  • Pre-hardened, 280–320 HB

04Heat Treatment

Typical values

Delivery condition
Pre-hardened 280–325 HB
Stress relieving
550–600 °C after rough machining; furnace cooling
Re-hardening
840–870 °C, oil → ≈ 50–52 HRC
Tempering (after re-hardening)
500–600 °C → 30–40 HRC
Nitriding
500–550 °C → surface ≈ 600–650 HV
