Plastic mold steel with excellent polishability and high corrosion resistance, remelted (ESR) for cleanliness.

01Material Properties

  • Very high polishability
  • High corrosion resistance
  • Retains surface quality over long service
  • Hardenable up to 52 HRC
  • Not suitable for nitriding
  • Suitable for coating
  • Limited texturing capability

02Applications

  • Molds for corrosive conditions and stainless (slow-rusting) mold requirements
  • Injection molds for corrosive plastics
  • Molds processing corrosive plastics such as PVC
  • Molds requiring A1+ mirror polish
  • Knives, molds and other parts for the food industry

03Delivery Condition

  • 241 HB, soft annealed

04Heat Treatment

Typical values

Soft annealing
760–800 °C; max. 230 HB
Stress relieving
600–650 °C
Preheating
600–650 °C and 850 °C
Hardening
1000–1050 °C; 15–30 min
Quenching medium
Oil, air/pressurised gas or 500–550 °C salt bath
As-quenched hardness
≈ 54–56 HRC
Tempering
180–250 °C, twice → 50–54 HRC; avoid 400–550 °C
Working hardness
48–54 HRC
