1.2316

  • EN1.2316
  • ENX38CrMo16

Pre-hardened plastic mold steel with high corrosion resistance thanks to 16% Cr.

01Material Properties

  • Very high corrosion resistance
  • Good toughness
  • Pre-hardened yet easy to machine (sulphur addition)
  • Optimum wear resistance
  • Not suitable for nitriding

02Applications

  • Extrusion and injection molds for corrosive polymers such as PVC
  • Mold holders and calibration blocks
  • Mold bolsters
  • Machine parts

03Heat Treatment

Typical values

Delivery condition
Pre-hardened 280–325 HB
Stress relieving
550–600 °C after rough machining; furnace cooling
Re-hardening
1000–1030 °C, oil/air → ≈ 50–52 HRC
Tempering (after re-hardening)
180–250 °C → 48–50 HRC or 550–600 °C → 30–34 HRC
Nitriding
Not recommended (reduces corrosion resistance)
