8 % chromium cold work tool steel with secondary hardening. Combines wear resistance similar to 1.2379 (D2) with higher toughness; can be tempered at high temperature, making it suitable for PVD coating.

03Delivery Condition
- Max. 250 HB, soft annealed.
04Heat Treatment
Typical values
- Soft annealing
- 820–860 °C; max. 250 HB
- Stress relieving
- 600–650 °C
- Preheating
- 650 °C and 850 °C
- Hardening
- 1030–1080 °C; 15–30 min
- Quenching medium
- Air/pressurised gas, oil or 500–550 °C salt bath
- As-quenched hardness
- ≈ 62–64 HRC
- Tempering
- High: 520–560 °C, 2–3 times → 58–62 HRC (PVD); low: 180–220 °C → 61–63 HRC
- Working hardness
- 58–63 HRC
