Air-hardening 5 % chromium cold work tool steel balancing wear resistance and toughness. Low distortion and good dimensional stability; a tougher alternative to 1.2379 (D2).

03Delivery Condition
- Max. 241 HB, soft annealed.
04Heat Treatment
Typical values
- Soft annealing
- 800–850 °C; max. 241 HB
- Stress relieving
- 600–650 °C
- Preheating
- 650 °C and 850 °C
- Hardening
- 940–980 °C; 15–30 min
- Quenching medium
- Air/pressurised gas or 500–550 °C salt bath
- As-quenched hardness
- ≈ 62–64 HRC
- Tempering
- 150–250 °C → 60–62 HRC or 500–550 °C (secondary) → 58–60 HRC
- Working hardness
- 58–62 HRC
